New to pull rates? The terms in 30 seconds
“1 in 92 packs”
On average, you'd open 92 packs to pull one. It's an average, not a promise: you could hit it in pack 3 or go 300 without one.
SIR (Special Illustration Rare)
Full-art cards with special artwork. Usually a set's most valuable pulls.
IR (Illustration Rare)
Art cards of single Pokémon. More common than SIRs, and often collected as a set.
Hyper Rare
The gold cards. Among the rarest pulls in modern sets.
Double Rare / Ultra Rare
The ex and full-art cards that make up most of a set's hits.
Booster box / ETB
A booster box has 36 packs. An Elite Trainer Box (ETB) has 9, plus sleeves and accessories.

The most expensive English Pokémon booster boxes are from the Sun & Moon and XY eras, sets from 2014 to 2019 that sell for thousands of dollars. Team Up (2019) leads at about $11,650, according to tcgrate’s tracker of TCGplayer prices (Oct 19, 2026). Some of these boxes rarely trade, so one sale can move their price a lot. Vintage boxes from the first years of the game are a separate market we don’t cover; see the rarest Pokémon cards for all-time records.

We priced every standard 36-pack booster box since: all 27 main sets from Sword & Shield (2020) through 2026. Every one sells for more than its MSRP. The most expensive, Evolving Skies, sells for about $2,199, 15.3× its $143.64 MSRP. For the 19 with measured pull rates, we also worked out what the cards inside are worth.

Key takeaways

  • The priciest boxes overall are Sun & Moon and XY sets: Team Up (2019) at about $11,650, Furious Fists (2014) at about $4,718, Roaring Skies (2015) at about $4,362. 11 boxes sit above Evolving Skies on tcgrate’s list.
  • Since Sword & Shield, Evolving Skies is the most expensive box at about $2,199, 15.3× MSRP, about 70% a year since 2021. Fusion Strike is second at $976.
  • All 27 sell above MSRP. The 2026 boxes (Pitch Black, Chaos Rising, Perfect Order) sell for 1.08× to 1.13× MSRP.
  • Every box we can value sells for more than its cards are worth on average, from 1.62× to 7.99× the expected card value.
  • The priciest loose pack is also Evolving Skies, at about $42.50.

Modern booster boxes ranked by price#

Box prices as of Oct 19, 2026; card prices as of Oct 19, 2026. “Cards inside” is the average market value of everything in a box’s 36 packs: the hits at their measured pull rates, plus the commons, uncommons, rares, and reverse holos. A dash means we don’t have pull rates for that set yet. Yearly growth is the compound rate from MSRP at release; sets out less than a year don’t get one, because a few months’ gain looks enormous once it’s annualized.

Booster boxes don’t have a list price of their own, so MSRP here is 36 times the pack MSRP: $3.99 for Sword & Shield packs, before the December 2022 price increase, and $4.49 since. The 8 boxes without card values (Fusion Strike, Sword & Shield, Brilliant Stars, Rebel Clash, Chilling Reign, Darkness Ablaze, Vivid Voltage, Battle Styles) are sets we haven’t gathered pull-rate studies for yet.

Why some boxes cost so much more#

Older boxes tend to sell for a bigger multiple of MSRP, but not in strict order. Phantasmal Flames, out less than a year, already sells for a bigger multiple (2.43×) than 9 boxes at least a year older. Three things drive the gap:

  1. Fewer sealed boxes over time. Every box opened leaves fewer sealed ones.
  2. One chase card can carry a set. Evolving Skies' most valuable card, Umbreon VMAX (#215), sells for about $2,325 on its own.
  3. Collectors pay for sealed. A sealed box can’t have been searched for hits, and it can still be sold or opened later.

The “cards inside” column shows the third point. Opening an Evolving Skies box returns about $275 in cards on average, against a $2,199 price: the box sells for 8.0 times what its cards are worth. Even the 2026 boxes sell for 1.80× to 1.96× their card value. That average already counts the big pulls at their odds, so the gap is what buyers pay above the average: for the thrill of opening, and, for older boxes, for a box that’s still sealed. A pack inside an Evolving Skies box works out to $61.08, against $42.50 for a loose pack of the same set.

The most expensive modern Pokémon packs#

The same pattern holds for loose packs. This list covers every set from Sword & Shield on, including the special sets that never had a booster box. Sun & Moon and older packs aren’t included.

Most special-set packs were never sold loose. For the special sets we track, MSRP is the booster bundle’s price per pack; a dash means we don’t have a list price to compare against. Celebrations packs hold 4 cards, not 10.

The cheapest loose packs are the newest main sets, at about $5.39 (Perfect Order). A pricier pack doesn’t hold better cards: it has the same odds as the day it was printed, and a loose pack can be weighed or searched before it’s resold. Our ranking of the best Pokémon packs to open compares what each pack returns per dollar.

Booster box prices, and what you get for them#

A modern English booster box holds 36 packs. If you’re deciding between a box and smaller products, our booster box vs. ETB vs. booster bundle guide compares the price per pack and the odds of each. The price tracker has today’s price for every sealed product we track.

Where these numbers come from#

Prices for all 27 boxes are TCGplayer market prices from Scrydex, which refreshes sealed prices weekly. We use the standard 36-pack box, not “enhanced” editions or cases. MSRPs are 36 times the US pack MSRP. “Cards inside” multiplies each rarity’s measured pull rate by the average price of its cards, then adds the average price of the commons, uncommons, rares, and reverse holos in each pack, the same method as our methodology page. It’s gross market value, before any selling fees. The Sun & Moon and XY prices come from tcgrate, Pokémon booster box prices, checked Oct 19, 2026.

Pull rates and card prices in this article come from our evidence registry and were last checked on Oct 19, 2026. Figures from outside sources, like grading fees, link to where they came from.
