California has the most Pokémon events, but Wisconsin has nearly twice the national rate per person

A count of 7,608 Play! Pokémon tournaments scheduled from mid-October through November shows California leading raw volume and Wisconsin at nearly twice the national rate per person.

California has the most Pokémon Trading Card Game tournaments scheduled this fall in the United States, but Wisconsin has the densest schedule per person — 4.4 Play! Pokémon events for every 100,000 residents, nearly twice the national rate of 2.2 — according to a new count of the official calendar.

We tallied 7,608 League Cups, League Challenges, and Pre Releases scheduled in the 50 states and D.C. from Oct. 15 through Nov. 30, 2026, as listed on Oct. 15 in the Play! Pokémon feed mirrored by pokedata.ovh. California leads with 764 events, followed by Texas (644) and Florida (485). Per person, using July 2024 Census population estimates, Wisconsin leads at 4.4 events per 100,000 residents (261 events). Oregon is second at 4.0 (172 events).

Size and density point in opposite directions. California’s 764 events are about 10% of the national count, but spread over 39.4 million people they come to 1.9 per 100,000, below the national rate and 36th among the 50 states and D.C. Texas and Florida, at 2.1 each, also sit just under it. Wisconsin’s 261 events run at 89 venues, about 15 per million residents, roughly double California’s 7.3.

The window is short and heavy on Pre Releases for the next English set, so it is a 47-day snapshot, not a full season. Some of those dates have passed; counting only events from Oct. 20 on leaves the same leaders. Smaller states can jump when a few active leagues sit on a small population.

Pre Releases make up 4,150 of the 7,608 events, more than half. Keep only League Cups and Challenges and Wisconsin is still second per person, at 1.9 per 100,000 (116 events), behind Wyoming, whose 15 league events sit on fewer than 600,000 residents.

State-level Pokémon sales are not published. National context: Circana put Pokémon at about $2.5 billion as a US toy property in 2025, and eBay saw $837 million in trading card game and non-sport card singles that year, according to GemRate. Our map pairs tournament volume and density with Google Trends search interest and local shop proxies instead of inventing state revenue figures.

Search interest for “Pokemon TCG” over the rolling past year indexed highest in Wyoming, then Hawaii and California — a different map from tournament density.
